Experiment 3
More progress
My tutor, Jacky thought the concept for Facebook's office was good, but I made some changes. Instead of the Yin-Yang resemblence, I made onside thinner, but with more levels, and the other side thicker but on a singular level, so things kind of balance out. People united as one can cause change, and indivuduals or smaller groups of individiuals can also hold power.
Following Jacky's advice, I changed Coca-Cola. The lift shaft passes between red boxes which hold the famous 'secret ingredients' for Coca-Cola's beverages. People on the ground can look up to see it and it's closer to them than facebook, but it's inaccessible.

Left: Facebook. Casual, inviting. Round table, no sense of a head of table. Right: Coca-Cola: Formal, business-like, protected |

Good as a concept massing model, next step - exaggerate the forms more (rather than leaving them in this blocky/cylinder like state), think about the details and articulation of the whole architecture (how things look respective to the power ideas, how the bridging -joining- is assembled, how does one travel from A to B, elevators? etc). A look at a few architectures around would help.
ReplyDeleteIn terms of sizing/proportion. Think about the tension of thin vs monumental elements, of something of mass and heaviness held by one thin element. The hanging box below could do with a bit more sizing up.
Chairs and table, not a good idea to knock off generic stuff. Design the thing to be a bit more meaningful.
